There are two common myths or misconceptions when it comes to hypnotherapy, so I wanted to take a moment to discuss those two things.

The first myth is loss of control or that the hypnotist will make you do things that you don’t want to do.

A lot of people think that hypnosis is a way for the hypnotist to have control of your mind. Stage hypnotists will play on this as a form of theater, but it’s just simply not true. Most times when you see something like this, it is due to the participant feeling some peer pressure to play along due to being in front of a group of people.

Hypnosis is powerful, but the power is not in my hands. It is in your hands as the client. So you would think of me as your guide, someone who can help you harness the power of your own mind to create change.

The second myth or misconception that’s very common is that the hypnotized brain is zapped or switched off.

Some people think that when you’re hypnotized your brain is switched off so that you won’t hear anything or know what’s going on. That’s also just simply not true. When you are hypnotized, your brain is incredibly active and you are actually in a very heightened state of awareness. You are fully conscious and fully aware of everything that is being said to you. You can come out of hypnosis at any time that you choose because you are always in control.

So I hope that helps clear up some of the myths and misconceptions surrounding this incredibly powerful healing modality.
